Green Deal Home Improvement Fund

Just a few weeks after the first launch of the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) unexpectedly closed it again, citing overwhelming demand. A second round was announced in December 2014 but the £30m budget lasted less than 3 days. Now, the scheme is to be re-opened again. On 4th March 2015, DECC confirmed that applications would re-open at noon on Monday 16th March. Customers requiring solid wall insulation works will be able to claim up to £3,750 of government funding towards it, subject to a maximum grant contribution of 67% of the project costs.

The fund, which is the part of the Green Deal Initiative, allows households to apply for cash towards improvements such as solid wall insulation and double glazing. It was first opened in June with a pot of £120m. December's pot was valued at just £24m. Industry experts agreed that the third round, with a budget of £70m, would not last long - perhaps only a week. However, further releases of funding should take place quarterly in 2015.
